Coming from a family of followers of Christ, and being in the CFC community for more than a decade now, I thought I knew the basics on how it is to evangelize and to bring people closer to God. I was confident that I am part of the chosen people of God.
From the statement above, one holds true to my beliefs, and the other, well, let’s just say needs to be pondered upon.
I was wrong when I thought that I knew the basics of evangelization, because truth be told, there is still so much more to learn. And that is exactly the purpose of the Evangelization Training.
The first talk is entitled The Great Commission. Simply put, WHY DO WE NEED TO EVANGELIZE? There are different answers to that question. But really, is there an explanation as to why God has called us? We, as SFC, have been called to be the frontliners of God’s army. And when we decided to answer His call, we decided within ourselves, with His guidance, that we will share His good news to the ends of the earth. We were handpicked by God to spread His never-ending love to everyone—no exceptions. And all we have to do is to decide to obey Him, and do as we are told—to go and baptize nations.
Aside from being the chosen people, evangelizing draws us into deeper union with Him. Whenever we pray with the rest of our brothers and sisters, and when we pray for their concerns, we grow into a more spiritual bond not only with them, but with our Creator as well.
Sharing His love to our brothers and sisters also serves as our grateful response to God’s goodness in our lives. It is a simple “thank You” to the Lord for all the blessing that He continuously and selflessly give us.
We cannot deny the fact that the world is turning into a venue of evilness, immorality, weakness, and other negativities. And as God’s people, it is our duty to send out His good news to the lost souls and those who have lost hope into a spiritual renewal. The world desperately needs to experience His love. However negative and hopeless the world seems, living the Christian way is filled with excitement and fun, and we just have to stand firm and believe that His mighty love will prevail.
But like many other roles, there are essential qualities to become true evangelizers of God. First, we have to have faith—faith and confidence in whatever we are praying for. But above all, we have to love. Above all else, love God. Our brothers and sisters follow after. Whenever we love God, and when we have a Christ-like heart, we learn to love others and it would be easy for us to evangelize.
The second talk explains how one evangelizes. How can we evangelize?
There are different forms of evangelization:
- Mass or Procalamation
- Random Evangelization – This is usually done to strangers.
- Christian Entertainment like film, music, theatre, etc.
- Circumstantial or environment, like the workplace
- Strategic or Selective Group –Focused on certain or specific group
- Program – CLP, Lifein the Spirit Seminar, Bible study, etc.
- Relational or pastoral – HH, fellowship, teachings
To sum it all up, evangelization is not an easy task. It takes a great deal of courage and a firm decision before one can truly share God’s faithfulness and love. We have to be evangelized, ourselves, we have to be friendly, respect people, be creative, ask for God’s perfect time. But above all these, we have to bear in mind that we are not alone in this battle, because along the journey, our dear Father carries and embraces us. We have to seek His guidance and pray for our purpose of making Him known in all the nations. And remember that it takes a humble heart to recognize our weaknesses, to face them, and to improve our ways. There might be days when we feel like the worldliness surrounding us is dragging us down. But when these days come, we should ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do?”, and apply it to our lives. And surely, everyone will know the Lord, through us.
May God Be Praised!
